About Strathfield Girls High School

Strathfield Girls High School was established as a single sex comprehensive high school in 1953 and designated a languages high school (due to the rich cultural diversity and backgrounds of its students) in 1990. Eighty five percent of its students are from non-English speaking backgrounds, representing fifty-six different cultural groups.

The school’s motto, “Pass on the Torch of Life”, highlights our commitment to quality teaching and learning. Our school is proud of its successes, including above state average achievements at the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate. The school has consistently been one of the top ranked comprehensive high schools in the state, with over 1100 students and approximately 100 staff.

Students are empowered to achieve self-reliance and to become confident, responsible and successful young women. There is a strong focus on quality teaching and learning in a safe environment that promotes individual excellence and the achievement of personal best.

GEC Background

Strathfield Girls High has been running the annual Australian Business Week Program since 2002. The program has been highly successful with students and staff making it a highlight of the school calendar. The program has grown in recent years to combine with Strathfield Girls High School’s brother school Homebush Boys. The students now have the opportunity to work in co-ed teams, across two campuses and have access to a range of mentors.

Joining the Global Enterprise Challenge this year we are hoping to extend the students on from the Australian Business Week Program through applying their knowledge of the Preliminary High School Certificate Curriculum and building on their team work skills. All the team members have volunteered for this program and are excited to face the 12 hour challenge ahead!
