While this is recognised as a format that has been updated with more recent versions, the older format is to be used so that few, if any, GEC teams or judges worldwide will be required to update their software to compose or read submissions. Teams with more recent software are requested to use ‘Save As’ to make a copy in the 97-2003 format.

Three-Minute Oral Video Presentation

The video must be created in English in a format able to be uploaded to YouTube, ideally in High Definition. For full details, please visit:

howto-youtubeTeams will be required to set up a YouTube Channel in order to upload a clip. We recommend that students create and upload a short test clip prior to the challenge to ensure they are clear on the process.

When uploading your GEC Team video the Privacy option must be set as "Unlisted", and the viewing link must be sent to the GEC organisers by the close of the Challenge.  More details can be found here - http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=157177   Remember to allow sufficient time to upload the video before the deadline.

No copyrighted music or images can be used. All material must be created or owned by the student or school, or be copyright-free. Submissions received with copyrighted material may be disqualified from the Challenge.

Ensure the uploaded video is clear, is easily understood and has good lighting and sound.

Optional: Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation 97-2003

The PowerPoint presentation must be in English and may contain a maximum of four slides and be no larger than 4mb in size.

PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation (*.ppt) is the only accepted format. While this is recognised as a format that has been updated with more recent versions, the older format is to be used so that few, if any, GEC teams or judges worldwide will be required to update their software to compose or read submissions. PowerPoint presentations may be submitted as an aid to the judges in their understanding of the submission. Please note they will not be awarded any score as they are optional.
